Founder and CEO

Dr. Jose Rocca

Jose Rocca, R.Ph., Ph.D., is the Founder and CEO of Solara Labs since its founding in 2007.

Dr. Rocca is regarded for his expertise in the development of complex formulations and delivery systems in the pharmaceutical sector and more recently for nutraceutical product lines. He is perhaps best known for pioneering an exclusive formulation and manufacturing process for ‘fast-melt’ tablets that is featured in Solara Labs’ own brands and in those of several of its customers.

Under Dr. Rocca’s leadership, Solara Labs has served as a hybrid R&D lab and contract manufacturer for nutraceutical brands. In particular, the company focuses on projects requiring innovative ingredients and advanced formulation development. Additionally, the company has supported the consumer health divisions of select major pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Outside of serving contract manufacturing customers, Dr. Rocca’s key initiative has been driving the creation, launch, and market penetration for its four own brands: EZ Melts® for the general vitamin consumer, BariMelts® for weight-loss-surgery patients, Renzo’s® Vitamins for Kids, and Prominent Nutrition® for consumers seeking high-quality botanicals, vitamins, and minerals in capsule form.

Thanks to its success with its own brands and those of its customers, Solara Labs has also been recognized as one of the fastest-growing companies in America for the last three years by Inc. Magazine in its annual Inc 5000 List.

Prior to founding Solara Labs, Dr. Rocca served as Director of Research and Development for Kos Pharmaceuticals.  In this role, he helped develop a series of proprietary formulations for the cardiovascular disease management market which ultimately led to the acquisition by Abbott Laboratories.

Dr. Rocca earned his B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Texas at Austin and then achieved his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmacy.  He has authored several scientific papers on drug delivery systems and is frequently invited to speak at international conferences and events.  He is also the inventor of a number of US and International patents for delivery technologies and pharmaceutical compositions.

Dr. Rocca sits on the Scientific Advisory Board of several nutraceutical and pharmaceutical companies and serves as an Adjunct Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Nova Southeastern University, teaching to Pharm.D. and Ph.D. graduate students.

When he is not working or teaching, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children in Miami, Florida.
